‘Bread is probably the most universal food of all. It is among the few foodstuffs considered super-cultural.’
FoodCultura / Miralda, Panlingua

Marta Archilés is an artist and member of FoodCultura, an artistic research team whose object of study for the past few months has been bread. Fascinated by this staple food, she began a journey in the course of which she met with Adriana Chia, a friend from childhood, barmaid and national champion of World Class – an international cocktail competition. With the support of FoodCultura, together they developed Cua de gall, a performance consisting of the preparation of a cocktail using bread as a drink.

For their evening performance in celebration of bread, the visual element will be particularly important thanks to a colourist mise-en-scène inspired on the origins of the word cocktail (cock tail), an animal venerated in many cultures and admired for the colours of its tail. Members of the public will not only be able to try a cocktail whose recipe is the result of this joint collaboration and experimentation, but also enjoy a special selection of songs with bread as the protagonist. The aim is to generate an experience involving the five senses in an environment as remarkable as the replica of El Internacional Tapas Bar & Restaurant – Miralda’s restaurant in New York (1984–86) – at MACBA.
